I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven – Matthew 18:3.
As Christians, I think it’s evident that God wants for us to imitate the admirable qualities we see in children, while trying to get rid of the qualities that are not so admirable. God wants us to adopt childlike hearts and says if we do so, we shall inherit His kingdom. A child’s heart is simple and trusting. A child is not filled with doubt and suspicion. A child’s faith is a simple faith. It is not filled with arguments and questions. A child is not cynical and sceptical. The Lord wants us to have such a simple childlike faith in Him and His promises. This is how the Lord wants us to relate to Him and to respond to His word.
The Lord warns us that without this childlike faith, we will not enter the kingdom of God. A childlike heart is quick to repent. A childlike heart will accept forgiveness easily and be restored to fellowship immediately. It will not bear long grudges and separation. Our character and conduct matter so much in the walk of salvation and I feel that God has been stressing it of late that we work on our character. Never stop praying and thriving to become better. In all this, we must however remember that the Lord wants us to be wise and prudent, and be mature in our thinking and decisions. We must not be childish but childlike in our hearts.
