Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour – Matthew 25:13.
Walking with God requires one to continuously cultivate themselves and their faith. Of late, I have been assessing my walk of salvation and I have found myself guilty of being too relaxed and comfortable. The reason behind my relaxation is because I ‘think’ I still have time. I know I have to devote myself to God, to prayer and to reading the word of God. I also know that I have to strive to be transformed into the image of Christ every single day, which is what Christianity is about. Over and above knowing what I ought to do, I even have a plan on how I need to do it all. Want to know what my biggest mistake is?
My plan is actually dated. Because I am just too busy for now, I will start devoting myself to prayer next month, I will start devoting myself to studying the Word regular just after things get less hectic at work, etc. Truth of the matter though is that tomorrow is promised to no one, we are all just waiting and we have absolutely no idea when Christ is going to come. It might be even today.
Through this parable, the Lord was trying to stress to us that we must be ready at all times, for no one knows the day or the hour in which He will return. We should live lives that are pleasing to God because you never know when the time will come for Him to take you home. Each and every day, live as if it was your last and do not wait for tomorrow. Read the Word today, devote yourself to God today, pray today, work on making yourself better today, be joyful today, forgive today and serve God to the fullest today. Live your life in such a way that if Christ was to come back today, you would not be worried about where you will spend your eternity.
