So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then – 1 Peter 1:14.
The word of God is clear on how we should conduct ourselves, there are no grey areas. It is either black or white, it is either you are cold or hot (Rev 3:15). God has given us the grace to choose what we want. We have a choice to follow what the Word says or to follow our own desires. The body always wants to do what it wants to do, but we have the upper hand (Galatians 5:17. It is clear that until we do what the Word says, our lives will always be difficult.
The word of God is our manual of life; we therefore have to consult it in order for us to function well. When we buy stuff we get a manual, and when something is not functioning right, we go back to it. It is the same with us when it comes to the Word; we have to consult it for everything.
The Word says He upholds everything by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:3). During creation God spoke His word and all things came into being. Everything created obeys the word of God, if all creation was to disobey the word everything in heaven and on earth would stop to function. With us too, if we start doing things that are contrary to the Word nothing functions in our lives. We find ourselves in a mess. We even open doors that we have no business opening, which lead to our destruction.
Our conduct informs our victories. The word of God says we are victorious, however we still need to maintain this walk of victory by always obeying. God’s power is manifested in us when we walk according to God’s statutes. Let us therefore always watch our conduct.
