But even after all he did, you refused to trust the LORD your God, who goes before you looking for the best places to camp, guiding you with a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day – Deuteronomy 1:32-33 NLT.
God delivered the Israelites out of Egypt and showed them many miracles and wonders. He even parted the sea so they could escape the army that was pursuing them. He gave them manna and supplied them with water miraculously. He proved Himself over and over again that He was their God, their protector and provider. Yet when He commanded them to take possession of the land they doubted and did not believe they could overcome the inhabitants therein.
We have so many personal testimonies of how God came through for us when we had lost hope. How God single-handedly delivered us from many impossible challenges. Yet when He commands us to trust and depend on Him we have reservations. We can trust Him with some things while still holding on to other aspects of our lives. We believe He will give us a better job and a beautiful house, yet we are not surrendering choosing of a spouse, because here He’s not equipped to deliver my “yellow bone”. He may just bring me someone too tall or too dark for me. So this aspect of my life I am more equipped to handle.
Why do we still battle with God to surrender everything to Him? When we take control and things go south we cry out to Him and blame Him for our predicament. I mean He is God so He should have known better that I can’t be trusted in this department. In John 6:60-71 the disciples proved that they had surrendered everything to follow Christ, and every aspect of their lives belonged to him.
When are we going to surrender everything and trust Him whole-heartedly? Trust Him when He commands us to do what seems impossible to us? Trust that He is always ahead of us to make a clear path for us? “Father take all of me and give me all of You. And help me to remember that You have my best interests at heart.”
