When it comes to the baptism with the Holy Spirit that those who believe should receive is very evident in the Scriptures. Peter delivering his maiden sermon at Pentecost did not mince his words declaring to all and sundry that they should repent and be baptized for the remission of sins and they “shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”. “For the promise,” he continued, “is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” The promise to receive the baptism in the Holy Ghost still stands for all believers in Jesus Christ today and until He comes. Peter prefaced his famous sermon by saying, “But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy,’” Acts 2:16-18. This holy promise was fulfilled practically over 2000 years ago. It was fulfilled for you and I that believe. What could we be possibly waiting for, and not dive in to receive?
“That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith,” Galatians 3:14. Can it get any clearer than this? This wonderful blessing is for all that believe. It can only be appropriated through faith. It is yours and mine for the taking. It’s our spiritual inheritance, our birthright. Christ suffered dearly for you and I to have it, lest we take His grace for granted. “If anyone thirsts, let Him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water,” John 7:37-38. “He who believes in Me.” Do you believe in Jesus? If yes, then you’re a legal candidate to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit. It’s yours if you believe the Scriptures. If you believe, then you can have it. That’s what the Scripture says, according to Jesus. “But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified,” John 7:39. Well, Jesus has been glorified and the Holy Spirit has been given and those who believe have received Him. Can you see that? If you haven’t yet received the baptism with the Spirit, you’re the one still left behind. You need to catch up now and fast. Why? Because there is absolutely no need to wait for something that was made available for you over two millennia ago. It’s been waiting for you. Do you still want to wait? I hope not, brethren. How would you justify that position?
The Spirit baptism will undoubtedly make an effective, powerful believer, witness and servant out of you. You will experience a closer, deeper and more meaningful relationship and walk with the LORD. You will be changed from glory to glory, ‘just as by the Spirit of the Lord’. The church of Jesus is a living spiritual body, therefore we need to be empowered and enabled by the coming upon of the Holy Ghost to render an acceptable and pleasing service just as did the seven men of Acts 6. They had to be full of the Spirit to serve tables. No job was too small, no task was too menial to pass under the radar of being baptized in Spirit. This blessing will make us powerful witnesses to Jesus to expand His kingdom and effective servants to build it. Fancy this blessing? It is already yours to receive by faith.
