But though the people of Israel are as numerous as the sand of the seashore, only a remnant of them will return – Isaiah 10:22a NLT.
Remnant definition: a part or quantity that is left after the greater part has been used, removed, or destroyed. Even though GOD had chosen Israel as His people most of them rebelled and disobeyed Him. Every single time He delivered them from their adversaries they turned around and spit at his feet. They despised Him and His prophets. Though He favored and adored them they continuously showed their unfaithfulness towards their Redeemer and Creator.
Even after Christ died for our sins and offered Himself as a choice offering we still despise Him to this day. We choose the flesh over Him and stretch grace to justify our selfish/carnal desires. Yet GOD has called out and set aside a remnant for Himself that will obey and sacrifice everything for Him. A remnant that will do His bidding, that will honor and glorify their Creator (2 Chronicles 16:9a).
“So I said: ‘Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts,’” Isaiah 6:5. This is a remnant that is humble before their GOD, that understand true grace and strive to be pleasing before Him. A remnant that is chosen by grace (Romans 11:5), not based on works. Narrow is the path that leads to righteousness and only the remnant will find it.
