A Faithful Commissioner

A Faithful Commissioner

Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’ – Zechariah 4:7 NLT.

Zerubbabel was governor of Judah who was commissioned by GOD to rebuild the temple. This was no small task, since the temple was no ordinary building, not even like an ordinary place of worship, but a place in which GOD’s glory came down and dwelt among the people. The temple is explained to be a place where heaven came down and touched earth, where GOD communed with human beings, a place to which prayers were directed and from which they were answered.

So to build a house suitable for GOD to dwell in was no small task. It did not help the case that over and above being faced with such a great task, Zerubbabel also had opposition from neighboring cities. The opposition was so great that the Bible states that while they were building the walls, they built with one hand and with the other they fought off opposition. In all that GOD said to Zerubbabel that the great obstacles would become nothing before him.

This passage to me says that no matter how impossible the task might seem to be, greater is the Spirit within than the spirit which is in the people opposing us. Obstacles and opposition which appear like a mountain before us will become like a level ground. So when we step out in faith and obey what GOD has commissioned us to do, trusting that His Spirit in us is the real doer in and through us, we can be sure that every obstacle we encounter is simply His opportunity to manifest His glory.

Obstacles are simply there so that we can learn to believe that the power of GOD is in us to accomplish the task He has set out for us. GOD’s purpose for your life is greater than you, so you have no power whatsoever to fulfil it. You are a chosen one, called of GOD so do not let the greatness of your commission intimidate you. Believe that the one who commissioned you will see you through.

So when we step out in faith and obey what GOD has commissioned us to do, trusting that His Spirit in us is the real doer in and through us, we can be sure that every obstacle we encounter is simply His opportunity to manifest His glory
