The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit – John 3:8.
The wind is the allegory of the Holy Spirit. He, the Holy Spirit, is invisible but perceptible. We don’t necessarily see Him – unless granted the grace – but we hear Him, see the wonderful miracles He does and also sense His presence. The wind is one of the mysteries of nature, but the Holy Spirit is a revealed mystery to us who believe. According to John 3:8, no one can tell where the Spirit comes from and where He goes; He goes where He wishes. And it continues to say ‘so is everyone who is born of the Spirit’.
No one can understand one born of the Spirit. First Corinthians chapter 2 verse 15 says, “But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.” Furthermore, John says the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. So are those born of the Spirit, no one can understand or know them. “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh,” 2 Corinthians 5:16.
Holy Spirit is omnipresent – present everywhere at the same time, omniscient – all-knowing, all-wise, all-seeing, and omnipotent – almighty. He’s trustworthy, dependable and faithful to teach, guide and lead us beside peaceful streams and cause us to lie down in lush green meadows. He is “Another” Helper, Counselor, Comforter and Advocate that our LORD promised would abide with us forever. However, we need to allow Him to take over our lives so that He can guide, lead and direct us according to divine will and destiny.
We must die to self for Him to take over, and for us to enjoy the blessings of instruction, help, counsel, comfort and protection He’s come to impart. He is GOD’s VIP protection to every believer! 1 John 4:4 says greater is the Holy Spirit who is in you than the devil who is in the world. When the enemy attacks you, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him like a mighty raging flood – akin to tsunami – and shall put him to flight.
Holy Spirit is a gift and a blessing to us. We need to welcome Him and surrender to Him. As it says in Psalms 32:8 NLT, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” We need to be humble and teachable for Him to do this. He’s our Helper and Counselor, let’s allow Him to help and guide us. He’s our Comforter and Advocate, let’s allow Him to comfort, defend and fight for us. May we not waive the wonderful blessing and benefit He is to us from the Father. Indeed, the wind blows where it wishes – our duty and response is to follow its path.
We must die to self for Him to take over, and for us to enjoy the blessings of instruction, help, counsel, comfort and protection He’s come to impart
