Worth Hearing

Worth Hearing

1 Thessalonians 2:13-16.

“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe,” verse 13.

Paul is commending and exhorting the Thessalonians for the manner in which they received the Gospel from them, they received it not as mere word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of GOD.

Four things are quite rare today: the word of GOD in truth, those who preach it as such – in truth and as the very word from GOD, those who receive it as such – as the very word from GOD for them, and the practical change and impact it brings to a life. The Word has suffered severely from those who preach or teach  it without so much as a clue of what they are talking about, to adulterating, to watering down, to dumbing down, to peddling, to manipulating, etc. What eventually comes out of all this is a word without the Holy Spirit and without power. “But you accepted what we said as the very Word of God – which, of course, it was – and it changed your lives when you believed it,” verse 13, TLB. This is what the true word of GOD does when received and believed – it produces a result, a change, an impact. How many of you born-again ones still receive and welcome the Word as the very word from GOD? And what has it done in you or for you?  The word of GOD only operates by faith, and it can only be operated by faith – there is no exception or respect of the person of man in this regard. The Word is a basic and functional unit in the Kingdom, without it nothing can be done or achieved.
