1 Thessalonians 4:1-7.

“…just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus,” vv.1-2.

The Thessalonian church is brought to remembrance by the apostles regarding the commandments or instructions they had given them on how to behave and conduct themselves as the children of GOD in the world. They’re further reminded that GOD did not call them to uncleanness, but in holiness. They’re told that rejecting these instructions is tantamount to rejecting GOD Himself (verse 8).

What sound, Bible-based instructions are you living your life by, as given to you by the church or those in seniority to you in Christ? We’re living in messed up times when people don’t know that these things even exist. I mean in the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement. Most people have twisted the grace of GOD to make room for the indulgence of their own flesh. They have, as it were, taken the grace of GOD for granted. Sound, Bible-based instructions and principles are there to enforce what the word says. Christians don’t want to be told to observe or obey anything because they claim to know the Bible and the grace of GOD. Imagine if the country were to drop all established rules and regulations because every citizen has and knows the constitution. That would breed anarchy immediately, and all its ramifications. The rule of law is precisely there to uphold the constitution.

Now you see why there is so much anarchy, confusion, lawlessness, rebellion and disorder in the Christendom? No rules, no regulations, no order because Christians claim to know the Bible and are living under grace. Their implicit definition of grace is freedom without responsibility, to live as they please – answerable to no one but GOD. This is not only Utopia but madness, chaos and mischief. The apostles even add that “therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.” They implied giving these instructions by the Holy Spirit. We need commandments, instructions, principles, precepts to live by as given by the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures. We’re not under law, but under grace – not lawlessness/rebellion. Grace has the fear of GOD, order, decency, correction, discipline, rebuke, obedience, and rule. The lawless church spits at just the sound of this, enough to make any Spirit-filled person cringe.
