“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” – Ephesians 6:17
I remember back when I was still in school, during one of my counseling classes, my Professor was explaining to us just how much “talk therapy” has helped in treating patients suffering with depression. Instead of medicating on the problem, the therapist would, among other things, instruct the patients to start making positive declarations over their lives, saying things like, “I have a bright future.” “People like to be around me.” “Good things are in store.” Amazingly, this has yielded great results for many therapists across the globe, many have reported to have had patients recovering from depression without even being medicated. The motive behind their decision was that they had realized that positive declarations bring about a positive outlook on life. The more you declare it, the more you will believe it and once you believe it then you will start to see it manifest in your life, that is how the human mind works.
Because of the fleshly nature of our minds, we rely mostly on our five senses. What we see, hear, feel, etc. then we express it out of our mouths. As we speak out what we feel or see, it begins to manifest more in our lives because our words carry creative power in them. This is why it is very important that we guard what occupies our minds. When we have the word of God in us and it’s the only thing that occupies our minds, we will begin to release it out of our mouths and best believe it has creative power to change our circumstances. It is the same creative power that created the universe, that resurrected Jesus, that healed the sick and raised the dead. I often hear people say, “The victory is in your consistency”. We must mature as believers, not just pray and speak God’s promises in the morning and then later in the day when pressure hits to speak what we feel. Instead we must constantly put a guard over our mouth to speak only what GOD says about the situation consistently; minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. The Word of God is the only given sword we can use to fight against the evil one, GOD has equipped us with His Word and it would be a shame for us to be defeated having the armor at our disposal.
