“If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them” – John 13: 17 NIV
It is important to know that salvation is not simply a work that happens when we are born again and ends there. It is rather a continuous work that happens until we are made into the full image of Christ. Many people have many different views on what happens to a man or what is expected from a man from a point of being born again to the point of death. Some have said that this process happens solely by the work of God without the participation of man. We must rely on grace and give up working and striving to be holy. Sometimes these preachers will preach simply, “Grace!” to the exclusion of any discipline of our own. However, Paul said, “train yourself to be godly”. Others will preach “Works!”, “Discipline yourself!” to the exclusion of reliance on GOD at all. These types of ministries often become legalistic, relying totally on the works of the flesh. Both realities are true, there is no one without the other. We must work while GOD is working in us.
Paul said he worked harder than anyone by the grace of God given to him. We must not be deceived into believing that as a child of God, your journey ends at just being born again. We work out our salvation, each and everyday, with God helping us until the point of death. We don’t just accept Christ and then wait for everything else to happen but rather we work on pursuing faith, righteousness and godliness. Ephesians says that we “put on the full armor of God”, to “put on” is an act. The word of God gives us the armor we need to overcome, ours is to put it on. This means that we ought to manifest truthfulness, peace, faith and salvation each and every day, then we will be victorious. It is only when we manifest the Word when we live it, that it will start working for us. The word of God only profits and benefits the ones who don’t only hear or know it but also do it. You can know the word of God very well but benefit nothing from it because you do not put it into practice. God has given us the full armor to overcome, it is not enough to know of this armor but this armor needs to be put into practice in order for it to be in full effect in our lives.
