“For your very lives are our letters of recommendation,” permanently engraved on our hearts, recognized and read by everybody. As a result of our ministry, you are living letters written by Christ, not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God—not carved onto stone tablets but on the tablets of tender hearts.” – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3 TPT
There’s a saying that says that we are the only Bible some people will ever read and the closest to Jesus that some people will ever get. I just thought of how as believers we are quick to quote scriptures to non-believers, but they are generally not interested no matter how much we believe they needed that Word at that time. That’s when I realized that people care more about how we live our lives and conduct ourselves than what we say and how much scripture we can quote. There is a time and a place for scripture and quoting the Bible but what is more important is us living the Bible every day because people are not only listening but also watching if we practice what we preach.
It is by grace that we are saved and not of ourselves (Ephesians 2:8) and dare I say, our gifts, callings and office are also by grace, so there’s actually no reason to grandstand or consider ourselves better in any way to both fellow believers and non-believers. Our part is to pick up our cross daily and walk with the LORD and allow Him to show us off and use us to draw people to Himself. When we allow ourselves to get proud, Jesus distances himself from us and when that happens, we deny people their encounter with Jesus, instead of them seeing Him, they see us with our over-inflated egos.
We have a responsibility as believers, not only to GOD but to the world, we are to keep and have a good conscious before GOD and before man (1 Timothy 1:19). We are letters of recommendation written by Jesus to the world around us, people that don’t read the Bible are reading us and the lives we live. Let your life be a testimony of who Jesus is, doesn’t matter your past, and your mistakes, let that be a testimony of His forgiveness. Doesn’t matter your weaknesses and your shortfalls, let that be a testimony of Him being the one who keeps you from falling and picks you up when you do fall. The world needs to see Jesus and you are that Jesus, let us live like it and be an epistle to the world, from Jesus.
