As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace – 1 Peter 4:10 ESV
I remember reading an article long ago about soul-winning and then going through the comments thereafter that were left by the readers. People were just sharing their stories on evangelism and soul-winning. I remember one man saying that he has, what he calls a “grass mowing ministry” and what he does is that he mows people’s grass for free, given that they would let him witness to them. Another called his ministry a “sharp-shooting ministry” what he does is that he would run free classes or put on a demonstration, and later preach the Gospel. A lot of people were sharing their stories and what was common with all of them is that all these people used their ability and interests to present the Gospel and be a witness for the LORD.
I remember reading this and just marveling at how people would stop at nothing to serve GOD and the fact that one really has no excuse not to have served GOD. These guys did not say because I am not a pastor I cannot do it or because at church they don’t give me the pulpit then I won’t say anything. There are a lot of excuses that we often come up with hindering us from serving GOD and winning souls over to His Kingdom, some of us hide behind being shy, some blame it on not having the right platform to share, some say they are not called and some feel like they have absolutely nothing to do for the Kingdom because of their inadequacy.
The truth of the matter is that GOD wants to use all of us for His good works. As long as you are called His, He wants you to minister to others. GOD wants to use ordinary men and women to get the work done. We are like tools and vessels in God’s Kingdom. Each has a different purpose. Whether you are pastors, Sunday school teachers, band members, etc, GOD wants to use you mightily right where you are and with what you have. Each one of us is different and has a different ability and gift.
Romans 12:6-8: “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.” This is God communicating to us that He needs us, with our unique gifts and abilities. Don’t despise yourself or even think for a minute that you are inadequate. Winning souls is not for the elite few, it’s not just for the fivefold but it is a responsibility for every son and daughter of GOD. Do what you can do for the glory of GOD.
