“Yes, and those who decide to please Christ Jesus by living godly lives will suffer at the hands of those who hate him.” – 2 Timothy 3:12 TLB

There’s a Xitsonga hymn called ‘Ndlela ya xihambano’, this hymn in summary says that I’ve chosen the way of the cross, there’s no turning back no matter how difficult it becomes. I believe when GOD gives us promises, the devil’s counterattack is in the form of persecutions, he wants us to give up. He even turns up the heat, the closer we get to our breakthrough. Jesus says that if we want to be His disciples we must take up our cross and follow Him daily and in Hebrews, we are told that for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross. Meaning, our joy is on the other side of the cross (our own tailor-made persecutions).

“Remember those early days after you first saw the light? Those were the hard times! Kicked around in public, targets of every kind of abuse—some days it was you, other days your friends. If some friends went to prison, you stuck by them. If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn’t touch your real treasure. Nothing they did bothered you, nothing set you back. So don’t throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It’s still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion. It won’t be long now, he’s on the way; he’ll show up most any minute. But anyone who is right with me thrives on loyal trust; if he cuts and runs, I won’t be very happy. But we’re not quitters who lose out. Oh, no! We’ll stay with it and survive, trusting all the way.” Hebrews 10:32-39 MSG

GOD is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able (1 Corinthians 10:13), so our cross is perfectly weighed for us. Persecution has a divine purpose in our lives and although it’s not easy, we need to embrace it, knowing that there’s a work that it’s doing in us that has an eternal value. This is Christianity! But we are assured that if we persevere and do not give up, we will receive everything that we have been promised. Take heart child of God,  your salvation is closer now than when you first believed.

Our joy is on the other side of the cross (our own tailor-made persecutions)
