“Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,” – I Timothy 1:5 NKJV

When I was meditating on the Word, an interesting question came to mind, ‘are there certain people in the Church that I treat a certain way, either because of a title or because they are my biological family?’ Then another question followed, ‘do I treat others the same as I treat those in the above categories?’ I then figured that it’s the Holy Spirit asking these questions and that there’s something that He wants to communicate. And He simply said that ‘the way I treat the lowliest person or the person that I might consider to be of least importance to me reveals that my love walk is still flawed. If at Church I’m kind and loving but at work, at the shops, on the road, I’m a horrible person towards others (believers and unbelievers), then the person I am at Church is fake. He then added that If I can only serve at Church, then the motive behind my serving is questionable.

“For GOD so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. God’s love is indiscriminate and followed by the relevant appropriate action. GOD did not only love a certain group, but He also loved the unsaved world and this love caused GOD to give His only begotten Son to die for us. Love looks out for the good of others. “Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”” Romans 15:1-2 MSG

GOD is our example of love, I love how the Scripture says “Strength is for service, not status”, it just ties into last week’s topic on how growing in love is growing in the Spirit. When we grow in love, our service towards others will also grow and because it comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith, it will continue to grow and impact the lives of more people. Actions speak louder than words, I remember a quote that says, “We are closest to being Christlike when we are serving because Christ was a Servant.” Love does not discriminate, we are called to serve everywhere where GOD has placed us.

We are closest to being Christlike when we are serving because Christ was a Servant.
