“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?” – I John 3:17 NKJV
“If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?” – James 2:15-16 NKJV
As believers, we have been given the word of God as our manual and guide as we navigate our way through this earth as sojourners. Knowing and quoting this Word, alone, is not good enough, we have to put it into practice. Everything written in the Word is also for our learning (Romans 15:4a). The Church of Acts really challenges me and is a great example of how GOD would like us to be as a Church. “Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.” Acts 4:34-35 NKJV
Lack, for believers, is not the will of God, and GOD has brought us together as different members of the same body, to look after each other. We also know that GOD provides through people, as seen in the example of Prophet Elijah and the widow of Zarephath in 1 Kings 17:8–24. The widow’s obedience was Prophet Elijah’s miracle and her breakthrough. It is in our obedience to GOD that He multiplies and provides for us while using us to provide for others. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV.
A couple of weeks ago, we were taught about love, for a few weeks. Where are our hearts? That will tell us where our treasure is. Are we holding on to something that GOD said we must let go of in anticipation of an uncertain future? It’s GOD who holds the future, and it’s Him who knows where He has called for our provision in the midst of uncertainty. Our obedience is someone else’s miracle and that same step of obedience is the door to our breakthrough. “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Esther 4:14 NKJV
Our obedience is someone else’s miracle and that same step of obedience is the door to our breakthrough
