“And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.” – 2 Corinthians 3:18 AMPC
There’s a saying that says that ‘you become what you consume’. This is evident in music and the things we watch and even as far as the company we keep. If the music has vulgar, before long, you will notice that the vulgar creeps into your speech. It is when we sit down with the word of God and seek GOD with the right motive and purity of heart that we are transformed into the image of Christ by the Holy Spirit. GOD not only gave us His Word but also planted us in His church, where we come to hear the Word and fellowship with other believers. On top of that He has given us shepherds after His own heart for us to follow. “PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).” 1 Corinthians 11:1 AMPC. So we are thoroughly equipped for success, but we still have the crucial role of obeying what we hear and read.
“If you listen to the Word and don’t live out the message you hear, you become like the person who looks in the mirror of the Word to discover the reflection of his face in the beginning. You perceive how God sees you in the mirror of the Word, but then you go out and forget your divine origin. James (Jacob) 1:23-24 TPT. This is where I believe we fall short as believers, we’ve been taught the Word, we know the Word, we follow our leaders, however, we don’t always live out that Word. This leads us to go around in circles and get frustrated in this walk. The word of God has to go through us and transform us, but that only happens when we walk humbly in obedience to the Word and dare I say, our leaders given to us by God.
“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” Romans 12:2 TPT. All the things mentioned above work together to bring about GOD’s plan for our lives. This plan requires one to die to self (Matthew 16:24), without this death we fall into the trap of error, we will be like those in 2 Timothy 4 verses 3-4 who seek out teachers who tell us what we want to hear, turn our ears from the truth and be turned aside to fables. Doing things GOD’s way is the true mark of a disciple, a disciple who is progressively growing into the image of Christ.
So we are thoroughly equipped for success, but we still have the crucial role of obeying what we hear and read
