“Go, inquire of the LORD for me, for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is aroused against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.” – II Kings 22:13 NKJV
When going through the Bible we see that many of the major life-changing decisions were made after inquiring of the LORD. Those who had wisdom knew that for them to succeed, it comes down to what the LORD is saying for He knows all things. What we see and think is not always the absolute TRUTH. “And they said to him, “Inquire of GOD, please, that we may know whether the journey on which we are setting out will succeed.” Judges 18:5 ESV.
We cannot be led by both GOD and our emotions. Our choices in pressured moments reveal whether GOD is seated on the throne of our hearts or if self is the one reigning. Often when we are confronted with negative situations we go back to what I call our “factory settings” where we respond in the flesh and our feelings take presidency over all reasoning. The offended will respond with anger, sometimes violence, and often with a bad and hasty life-altering decision that leads to destruction. It takes humility to first pray and seek the face of God in a seemingly offensive or volatile moment. But His divine council can always be found in His Word. He has also sent us leaders and servants who can speak His mind to us. And in other times He speaks through the advice of loved ones and even strangers. “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17 ESV.
“To have knowledge, you must first have reverence for the LORD. Stupid people have no respect for wisdom and refuse to learn.” Proverbs 1:7 GNT. The more we submit ourselves to GOD and His leading, the more our flesh begins to die and the Spirit of the Lord rises in us. Emotions such as offense begin to lose their place in our hearts and God’s voice becomes clearer. The answers to many of life’s issues lie beyond what we see, hear and feel. They are hidden in what GOD has to say. But it starts with seeking to know and understand what GOD is saying.
The more we submit ourselves to GOD and His leading, the more our flesh begins to die and the Spirit of the Lord rises in us.
