“Then GOD said, “Let us make mankind in Our image, in Our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” – Genesis 1:26 NIV

GOD created everything and when He was done He then made man. Everything before then that was created wasn’t made in His image and likeness. Yet when He created human beings He made them in His image. We were not only created in His image but also in His likeness so the aim wasn’t only to look like Him but also to operate and function like Him. As soon as we were made in His image and likeness we were then given a purpose. This purpose’s effectiveness first required us to be exactly like Him for it to be fulfilled.

In verse 28, GOD then blessed them and told them to be fruitful and fill the earth. I particularly love how every thing created before us, GOD created it by Himself, yet when man was about to be created, everyone in the Godhead had to be called into action (“let Us make man”). So the creation of man required the whole Trinity to be involved (quality assurance). This shows how special and important our creation was.

When Jesus came on earth, two adults (man and woman) were entrusted with his upbringing. They could have just picked a single lady or single man, yet a couple was chosen. This shows the important role each parent plays in the eventual fulfillment of God’s purpose for any child. This is why it was never the original design for children to be raised by single parents. The man as a leader provides the leadership and discipline that the child will require in life to be an effective leader, the mother brings the nurturing and love needed to show mercy to others. This is why Christ came with truth and grace (John 1:17). Sometimes being raised by a single parent, a child may excel in one and be deficient in another. I believe, as adults, in Christianity, there might be a slight delay in us walking in our purpose because we weren’t taught these things as children, and GOD has to allow trials and challenges now to mold us into usable vessels.

GOD created us in His image and likeness so we may fulfill our purpose on earth. He then placed us in families where qualities/traits that are needed to accomplish our objectives are perfected. The parents that we are placed under also need to play their role. Parents not raising their children must ask themselves who has taken over that responsibility? The person who has taken over from you are they bringing them up in the fear of the LORD? Some situations are beyond our control and you may not be allowed access to your kids, but if you have access to them then you have to make sure that you play your part. “And a voice from Heaven said, ‘This is My Son, whom I love; with Him, I am well pleased’” Matthew 3:17 NIV. As we try to bring up our kids in the ways of the LORD, this is what we strive for as parents. May we one day proudly say this about our children as we present them to the world knowing full well that we have accomplished our assignment of raising them well.

GOD created us in His image and likeness so we may fulfill our purpose on earth. He then placed us in families where qualities/traits that are needed to accomplish our objectives are perfected
