Sunday Message Summary, 19 December 2021
Each and every Christian has a specific race that is marked out for us to achieve the objective GOD has for us (Hebrews 12:1c). The only way GOD can achieve this objective that He has for a specific person, is for that person to go through the challenges on that path marked out for them. Amid the challenges however, what matters most at the end of the day is whether we have kept our faith and finished the race (2 Timothy 4:7).
Our faith must be tested. If we run away from tests, we will not grow nor mature, and perseverance and endurance can only be produced in us through the testing of our faith (James 1:3-4). We must endure trials and remain standing, because it is the standing that qualifies us for the crown of life (James 1:12). We need wisdom to understand why we are being tested, so that we can stand (James 1:5). Even Jesus, though He is GOD, had to suffer through the trials and challenges to learn obedience. We cannot partake in the glory of Christ if we do not share in His suffering.
Why then do some keep the faith, and some not? Why do some remain while others lose their way? If we are persistent in prayer and seeking GOD amid our trials, He must come through for us (Luke 18:1-8). There are also things that hinder us from being persistent in faith, and these are the things that we need to avoid and lay down (Hebrews 12:1). Furthermore, like Jesus, when we go through trials there needs to be a joy that is set before us (Hebrews 12:2). Apostle Paul also reveals to us that being content is the secret, which is the type of contentment that comes from Christ, knowing that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:10-13).
When GOD chose a path for us, He gave us the enablement to overcome. Everything we need for our victory is already in place, and GOD works out everything for us in perfect conformity. The LORD gives us both the desire and the power to do what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13), and though there are billions of Christians on Earth, God’s eye is searching, looking to strengthen those who are fully committed to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9). Furthermore, Jesus tells His disciples to take heart for He has overcome the world (John 16:33), so if the One who has overcome the world lives in us, then we ourselves will overcome the world.
We must endure trials and remain standing, because it is the standing that qualifies us for the crown of life
