“The LORD says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you” – Joel 2:25 NLT

A man named Rick Norsigian, who is a painter, bought artwork at a garage sale. For those who understand garage sales, you know that someone is trying to get rid of their “junk” and selling it to unsuspecting clients. It then turned out that the artwork belonged to a famous nature photographer named Ansel Adams. The artwork had an estimated value of 200 million dollars (around R3,2 billion). He probably spent less than 100 dollars on the artwork. In another story, an informal miner in Tanzania found two tanzanite stones that he eventually sold for R54 million. These are just examples of people who went from having nothing to being instant multimillionaires/multibillionaires. This shows that GOD can change your situation instantly and bless you beyond your wildest dreams. If such can happen to unbelievers how much more can GOD do for His children (same GOD who did not withhold His own Son)?

In the above Scripture, GOD is acknowledging the fact that the Israelites have lost a lot of material things. He knows that their possessions and wealth have been consumed. As you go on to verse 26, He then speaks about the shame that the Israelites went through during these difficult times. Yet, He promises that when He’s restored them, their enemies will no longer make fun of them. Sometimes it may seem like the more that you fully commit yourself to the things of GOD, the more things seem to be getting worse. This is the same time when your adversaries seem to be excelling in everything that they put their minds to. The time when your own family might remind you of how things have deteriorated since you’ve become a believer. When you look at your peers and realize that theoretically speaking, by now you should have at least made your first million if you are to comfortably retire early. This is where self-pity can consume you and make you question every promise GOD has given you. Yet, GOD then promises to not only bless you but to also replace everything that you lost during this tough season in your life. Like the Israelites when leaving Egypt, GOD may allow you to plunder your enemy’s reserves and make you instantly prosperous.

In the Bible, we learned how wealthy Job was and how he instantly lost all of his possessions because of the trial that he was going through. How he went from wealth to nothing in the blink of an eye. Some may have lost the reserves that they had worked so hard to accumulate and are now holding on by a thread. These things have to happen so that our faith may be shown for what it is. We can’t afford to lose hope now as these trials have to happen, they have to achieve their desired outcome (James 1:2& 12). The enemy may have intended for them to destroy us, yet GOD, who is faithful and just, will work them out for our benefit. The trick is to always remember that His aim is not to destroy us, but to empower us (Jeremiah 29:11).

“For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” Psalm 30:5 NLT. You may be weeping during this night but the sun will rise again. These challenges and trials may seem to be getting the better of you, but we know that when the morning comes we will be rejoicing. Like the woman who is suffering during labor pains, the birth of the child will bring joy. During this joy, the anguish of the labor pains will be but a distant memory. Our time will come and our GOD will restore us. Everything the locusts destroyed will be restored a hundredfold.

These challenges and trials may seem to be getting the better of you, but we know that when the morning comes we will be rejoicing
