The Spirit Cannot Lie

The Spirit Cannot Lie

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” – Revelation 3:15-16 NIV

I have often wondered in shock at how a realm as intense and as deep as the spiritual can still have people who are insincere, lukewarm, and downright carnal about the things of GOD. Especially those who have experienced and witnessed His miracles, His mighty works and have seen and heard testimonies that can only be from The LORD. Are they indifferent because they don’t really believe that GOD is real and is all-seeing and all-knowing? And that we cannot hide the true state of our hearts and intentions from Him? Or could it be that their interest in the church and ministry is for other reasons other than GOD, hence they are not moved by the supernatural workings that they see in front of them? Either way, I am inclined to agree with Jesus in Revelations 3:15. A person who is cold in the things of GOD is better because he is honest with himself while the lukewarm one tends to be pretentious and sinister in what they desire to receive from their supposed walk with Christ. They have no love for GOD or anything He stands for and are generally a hindrance in the church and to those who are sincerely seeking GOD.

The saddest state for a believer is not being fully committed to GOD. That person misses out on the divine experience of who Christ is and the fruits that come with having a sincere relationship with Him. “But the hour is coming, and is now here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” John 4:23 ESV. Let’s not lie to ourselves when it comes to spiritual things. They are deeper than any of us will ever understand and how we are towards the things of GOD can lead to either blessings or curses over our lives. Our heart condition and intentions matter in the spirit. We can lie to ourselves and those around us but we cannot lie to the Holy Spirit.
