Who Is Your CIC (Commander-In-Chief)?

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” – Ephesians 6:13 NKJV

“No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.” – II Timothy 2:4-5 NKJV

Today when we talk about athletics, one of the names that always comes up is that of Usain Bolt, but very few people know about his trainer, Glen Mills. Glen Mills played an important role in the success of Usain Bolt. Bolt had the talent but still needed to put in the work, have discipline, and a trainer that was an expert in their field for him to be successful. It is similar to our Christian walk, submission to godly leadership and discipline are needed. We see a lot of gifted (gifts of the Holy Spirit) individuals that are not discipled and lack discipline, not only sabotaging their callings but hurting others in the process.

Another talented athlete that is well known is, the boxer Floyd Mayweather who was trained by his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. Boxers are also known to be some of the most disciplined athletes in the world, and for Mayweather to have a record of 50-0 (50 wins and 0 losses) one can only imagine how determined and disciplined he had to be throughout his career. We too if we want to walk in victory will need discipline and determination.

Lastly, one of the other fields that requires discipline is being a soldier in the army. I’m reminded of a series of videos that went viral a couple of years ago, of one particular soldier who was struggling and his commander was always complaining about him. The commander in one of the videos says, “please disappoint me again, I knew it Mabena”, which means Mabena was a constant headache to his commander. We should strive not to be a Mabena to our CIC, Jesus, and the leadership that He has placed us under so that we can walk in the victory that has already been won for us. We need to be rightly related within a God-ordained hierarchy, walk with determination and discipline for us to walk in the fullness of the blessing.

We should strive not to be a Mabena to our CIC, Jesus, and the leadership that He has placed us under so that we can walk in the victory that has already been won for us
