Sunday Message Summary, 13 February 2022
This world is a war zone. We are engaged in warfare against the armies of darkness in this world (Ephesians 6:12), and there is no demilitarized zone. The unsatisfactory state we may find ourselves in today is because of the kingdom of darkness, and one of the weaknesses of Christians is taking the devil, the kingdom of darkness, the power of the devil and that of the kingdom of darkness for granted. We are soldiers in a war, and by using the allegory and metaphor of a soldier in the Bible, GOD is using physical things to explain spiritual realities.
We are in a war although in the flesh it does not seem that way. Everything that happens in the physical has been concluded in the spirit. The bone of contention in this war is our minds (2 Corinthians 10:5). To operate as we should we need to be transformed in the mind, because whoever controls one’s mind controls them, their life, and their destiny. The Holy Spirit wants to transform the way we think using the Word of God, because nothing else can renew the mind but the Word. For this reason, we have been given weapons, but we ought to be familiar with the armament GOD provides.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, and since the world only offers flesh, we should not get ourselves entangled with the things of this life, but we must be disciplined as soldiers (2 Timothy 2:4). A good soldier does not allow anything in this world to swallow them up. Every good soldier endures hardship (2 Timothy 2:3), so as children of GOD we should not give up when things are hard. There is hardship everywhere for different Christians in different places, but a true child of GOD does not give up. However, without discipline we will always answer the call of the flesh, the flesh rendering us ineffective as soldiers of Jesus Christ in the army of the LORD. A soldier is a trained civilian, who controls himself through discipline, living his life according to a code, which in our case is the Word of God.
To be soldiers we not only need to be disciplined, but we must be obedient, submissive, and humble, lest we find ourselves being casualties. The weapons we have been given operate for a soldier who is obedient. Rebellion, disobedience, and insubordination cannot fight the devil nor give life, so if we do as we please in this warfare, we endanger our own selves and those around us. Authority coupled with submission and obedience to that authority is a life and death situation for a soldier. There is authority in the Kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness, and there has to be submission to one of these authorities because there is no grey area. The church is God’s established authority on earth, so our covering is in the church.
