A Heart of Humility

“but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore GOD also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,” – Philippians 2:7-9 NKJV

As believers, Jesus Christ is our example, we are CHRISTians, so every day we should pursue to be more like Him. One of the important areas is the area of humility. I love that the Word not only tells us to be humble but also tells us the benefits or the reward of being humble. Often we can believe that we are humble hence we should always ask the LORD to search our hearts. Sadly, most of the time He puts us in a situation that will expose us to ourselves, that maybe, just maybe, I am not as humble as I thought I was. This is not to condemn us but a call for us to surrender that area back to Him to help us.

“Human pride will be humbled, and human arrogance will be brought down.” Isaiah 2:17a NLT. In this walk, we have to continually keep our hearts in check, humility/pride is in the heart, not necessarily what we see on the outside (1 Samuel 16:7). We have the responsibility to bring ourselves low and make ourselves of no reputation and the lower we take ourselves the higher the elevation will be. If we refuse, we should be careful, lest we are resisted by GOD, Himself where He will be the one to humble us or bring us down.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV. So we should guard our hearts against pride because pride in the heart is a guarantee of a frustrated Christian life. We have to pursue Christlikeness and a heart of humility. As imperfect as we are, as fallible as we are, the grace for us to humble ourselves is always available.

We have the responsibility to bring ourselves low and make ourselves of no reputation and the lower we take ourselves the higher the elevation will be
