Sunday Message Summary, 10 April 2022
Faith is first and foremost a relationship with GOD. Faith focuses on GOD, taking and leading us to Him. Abraham, for example, was accepted by GOD, made right with Him, and rightly related with GOD through his faith (Galatians 3:6-7). Abraham’s faith brought him into a relationship with GOD (James 2:23). We learn from this that the basis of a relationship between man and GOD is faith, without which there can be no relationship. Faith takes us to GOD for a relationship with Him. If we are people of faith, we should have a relationship with GOD, where He knows us, and we know Him.
Such was the relationship that Abraham had with GOD, that when he was offered the spoils of a war involving 9 kings, he was conscious of the One he solely sought (Genesis 14:21-23). He was not interested in any other thing except GOD because he had a relationship with GOD. Abraham refused convenience and chose GOD because what he wanted was GOD and not things. GOD is everything we are looking for. Whatever we need, GOD is. We must be like Enoch, who had a relationship with GOD, and as a result had everything (Hebrews 11:5-6). When we have a relationship with GOD, everything else follows that relationship. We are therefore in error if we seek things from GOD when we don’t have a relationship with Him.
Enoch pleased GOD by his faith, and GOD rewarded Enoch, by revealing Himself and having a relationship with him (Hebrews 11:5-6). GOD is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, not things, and the reward of faith is that we are accepted by GOD, made right with Him, and rightly relate with Him. Faith pleases GOD and causes Him to manifest Himself to man (John 14:21,23). This is the beauty of seeking GOD for Him and not for things. Biblical faith ought to cause GOD to make Himself known to the person who believes, and this faith relationship with GOD is eternal.
Faith brings us into a knowledge of GOD, then everything else begins to unravel from that relationship. Even prayer is a communication that comes from a relationship with GOD. As believers, everything we will ever be, and everything we will ever do by faith will flow from our relationship with GOD. For the people who know their GOD, there shall be nothing impossible for them (Daniel 11:32b).
Biblical faith ought to cause GOD to make Himself known to the person who believes
