“Let giving flow from your heart, not from a sense of religious duty. Let it spring up freely from the joy of giving—all because GOD loves hilarious generosity!” – 2 Corinthians 9:7 TPT

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21 NKJV

Tithe is one of the most contended topics in the Christian faith, even non-believers have a say when it comes to tithe and giving of money. Sadly, many believers are still married to their lives, their needs, and their wants. We have dreams, desires, and goals. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t want a big house and a fancy car, the latest and trendiest clothes? The Bible does say “money answers everything” after all (Ecclesiastes 10:19b). So we’d rather use the money for our own pursuits, I mean, we worked hard for it, right? My 2 cents on this, is that if we don’t see our job or our provision as a blessing from GOD but rather as our own achievement, rightfully, we deserve to keep our money and do with it as we please.

Tithe/ giving is a response of the heart, not out of obligation or coercion. GOD loves a cheerful giver, if giving causes us to be miserable or to complain then I highly doubt that it’s acceptable to GOD. However as a child of God, this attitude should not be ignored, it tells us that there’s something wrong. Proverbs 4:23 tells us about paying attention to the welfare of our heart. The heart of a believer is crucially important on this faith walk, EVERYTHING flows from there, that is why it’s possible to do everything “right” but if the heart/motive behind what we do is not right, the promised benefits won’t come to pass.

Where is your treasure? Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question for you but where your treasure is, that’s where your heart will be also. Giving is not a money issue, it’s a heart issue.  Giving to what you love is easy, spending money on what you love is easy. So while others debate, GOD lovers are more focused on playing their part. Giving for a child of God should be a joy, if it isn’t, it’s time to look at the relationship/heart, it’s just a symptom to expose a deeper issue. This is not to condemn but rather to point us back to the Father, for us to go back to our first love.

Giving is not a money issue, it’s a heart issue
