“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” – Colossians 3:1-4 NKJV
According to scripture, Christ is everything to us who are born again. He is our life (Colossians 3:4), He is our joy (John 15:11), our peace (Ephesians 2:14), our wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:30), even our food (John 6:48)! He says when we are sick He is our physician (Mark 2:17). If Christ is everything to us as He ought to be, is He truly the one we go to first, every time we have a need? A need for, say, joy, peace, wisdom, food, healing, work? So when a child asks, what is life? What do we answer? “Why are you my mother?”, “Where do animals come from?”, “How do I find peace?”, “Why should I forgive?” How do we answer such questions from inquiring minds? Is a science-based answer more realistic than a Scripture-based answer?
Is our earthly experience, more accurately, civilization and the science of things, all we know and all we aspire to and trust? Are we truly in the world but not of the world? Do we look into the Word and see ourselves, then try to match our lives to Scripture? Or do we look at how we grew up? How things are done? How our mothers did it? How our sisters and brothers do things? How “successful” people got to where they are? How our role models do life and do things (these days bloggers post their daily routines, how they wake up brush their teeth and prepare for work etc.)? Is this our model? How people have gotten on through the ages, and how human beings are civilized?
‘For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son, so that His Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.’ (Romans 8:29 NLT). We were created to be like Jesus, born again into Christ and have our lives hidden in Him. We no longer live, it is Christ who now lives through us, He is our pattern. We no longer have an identity founded in human nature, we are who the word of God says we are. This is how we reign it in and come back to the middle, our foundation is Christ. James 1:23-25, If we look into the perfect law of liberty as in a mirror and continue in it, we will always find ourselves, we will always be saved from worldliness, and navigate our way safely into eternity!
