The Potter

The Potter

“…..There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears – Philippians 1:6 MSG.

This scripture is one of the many promises of God that God has given to us as His children. It settles peace in my heart that I am only mentioned as a subject in this scripture, it is God who started the great work, it is God who keeps at it, it is God who will bring it to a flourishing finish. My part is just to lay down my will and say ‘Lord, Your will be done’. The word of the Lord in Jeremiah, chapter 18, came to the prophet that he should go down to the potter’s house, “So I went to the potter’s house, and sure enough, the potter was there, working away at his wheel. Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out badly, as sometimes happens when you are working with clay, the potter would simply start over and use the same clay to make another pot.” This account tells us that when we fail or flop as clay in the potter’s hand, God does not discard us; He simply just starts over with us until He makes something of value to Him out of us.Laying down our own will for God’s will is not easy, even Jesus was strengthened by an angel at the Mount of Olives the night before His crucifixion. Our prayer should be, “Lord, help me to lay down my will so that your will be done, increase as I decrease, Amen.” And as we lay down our will, God’s great work in us will come to a flourishing finish at the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
