Believing Without Seeing

Believing Without Seeing

Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” [John 20:29, NLT]

Faith is simply having the confidence that the future things GOD has revealed in His written word, will unquestionably happen. It is knowing that GOD’s word is dependable and reliable at all times. It is understanding that no circumstance, situation or hardship can ever hinder GOD from fulfilling the promises He made to us because He is faithful regardless and can never deny Himself. For the longest of time, when it came to the issue of faith in the absence of tangible things, I identified with Thomas, Jesus’ disciple. I have never been one to believe something just because someone says it is true. See, Thomas was a realist, he knew that issues such as resurrection were not an everyday thing and refused to be made a fool of by people trying to convince him otherwise . He wanted evidence, he wanted proof. I have often justified Thomas’ actions with a lot of reasoning but I can’t help but think that while I might think it was okay for Christ to show Himself to Thomas and give him proof that He’s alive, He expresses His desire for people to believe in Him, even if they haven’t seen Him yet. That is something to be mindful of.

It’s very easy to criticize and judge Thomas for his doubts, but the truth is many of us live with similar hesitations. Human nature does not make it easy for one to just believe without seeing. This just goes to show just how much of a spiritual act faith is. Faith is a spiritual issue, not a natural issue, it is of man’s spirit, not of his mind or body. Faith does not make sense to the mind, it was never intended to. GOD’s desire is for each and every believer to move from a point of believing because they have seen or because it makes sense, that does not please GOD. He wants us to trust Him and have this confidence in Him, that even when things don’t make sense we remain unshaken. The word of GOD says that even when we are unfaithful, GOD remains faithful towards us because He can never deny his nature. This should be confidence enough for us believers that what GOD says, He will surely do because He is not a man that He should lie. You do not have to see much but you just have to believe that GOD is.

GOD’s desire is for each and every believer to move from a point of believing because they have seen or because it makes sense, that does not please GOD.
