Rogue Branches

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5 NIV

This is one of my favorite Scriptures. It sets the tone and condition of our relationship with Christ. From this, it is clear that a relationship with Jesus will determine how effective you will be in the Kingdom. Jesus starts by highlighting that He is the true vine, and we are only branches. Branches on their own can’t survive because they receive their nutrition from their vine. So as branches we need to be connected to the vine, so that we may receive our life-giving nutrients, and from this nutrition we can perform the function we were designed to perform. Our proximity to the vine determines the type of fruit that we can produce.

This Scripture also shows that there first needs to be a relationship between the branches and the vine before fruits can be produced. We (branches) need to have an intimate relationship with the vine (Jesus) before we can fulfil our destiny. So as Christians we can’t expect to be fruitful and effective if we don’t have a relationship with Jesus. So if we are devoid of blessings /breakthroughs we need to examine our proximity to the vine and determine if we are still connected to the vine. There can’t be a rogue branch that expects to be fruitful without first being connected to the vine.

“Whoever has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves Me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show Myself to them.” John 14:21 NIV. When we are connected to the vine we receive nutrients (the Word) that cause us to grow into effective branches that can produce attractive fruits. Everything we could ever be flows from a relationship with GOD, and this only happens when we are still connected to the vine. When we are disconnected we become shrivelled up and unfruitful. The shrivelled up branches do not honor the Father and as a result, they run the risk of being discarded. Everything we could ever be, or hope to be, first starts with a relationship with the vine. So our unfruitful seasons are related to periods where we detach ourselves from the vine, as the vine does not remove itself from the branches.

When we are connected to the vine we receive nutrients (the Word) that cause us to grow into effective branches that can produce attractive fruits
