Take Delight In The Lord

Take Delight In The Lord

Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart – Psalm 37:4.

To take delight in the Lord means that one’s heart finds contentment and fulfillment in Him. If one truly finds satisfaction and fulfillment in Christ, God will give them the desires of their heart. Most often we tend to delight in status, material possessions, and other temporary things of this world, but we are never really satisfied. This world can never satisfy our deepest desires, but if we choose to delight in God’s way, He will always provide above and beyond our expectations. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things [the necessities of life] will be given to you as well.”It is important that we understand that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, our innermost desires are transformed and are no longer just our casual wishes. This is because our will is subdued to the will of God and what God wants for us. This scripture simply clarifies that when we truly rejoice or delight in the eternal things of God, our desires will begin to align with His and we would therefore never go unfulfilled. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him (1 John 5:14-15). If we place our joy and hope in God first, He will meet all of our needs. He will even grant our wants, as our heart’s desires begin to match up with His will. If we truly place priority on the Lord, chances are our heart’s greatest desire will not be a brand new private jet or Maserati, but eternal treasures in Christ.
