For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil – Ecclesiastes 12:14.
It is often said that true Christianity lies in the heart, we therefore ought to keep our hearts in check and guard them with everything we have (Proverbs 4:23). Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, and it is when we are squeezed or under pressure that we actually are exposed to what lies in our hearts. Sadly what is in our hearts soon finds its way out of our mouths and through our actions (Matthew 12:34b NIV).
“You can’t keep your true self hidden forever; before long you’ll be exposed. You can’t hide behind a religious mask forever; sooner or later the mask will slip and your true face will be known. You can’t whisper one thing in private and preach the opposite in public; the day’s coming when those whispers will be repeated all over town,” Luke 12:1-3 MSG. It is the things we meditate on and fill ourselves with in private that fill our hearts and sooner or later will manifest. With GOD it is these things that we do in private that reveal the real us because GOD does not look at the outward appearance, He looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7)
Our private prayer lives are therefore key to our Christian walk, and Jesus tells us that whenever we pray, we should go into our innermost chamber and be alone with GOD, praying to Him in secret and our Father, who sees all we do, will reward us openly (Matthew 6:6). What seeds are you sowing in your secret place (heart/private space)? These seeds will determine what we harvest because what we practice in private, will manifest in public.
